Zaka Ashraf Likely To Return As PCB Chief After Najam Sethi Withdraws From Race
Apart from Zaka’s inclusion, Supreme Court’s advocate Mustafa Ramday also has been assigned an important role in the PCB
Zaka Ashraf is expected to make a comeback as the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board after Najam Sethi opted not to contest anymore for the position. Notably, Ashraf led the governing body from 2011-13 and the country’s Prime Minister also declared his name as the next chief of PCB, he will now be marking his return.
Apart from Zaka’s inclusion, Supreme Court’s advocate Mustafa Ramday also has been assigned an important role in the PCB. As per the new law, the newly added individuals will be a part of a 10-member Board of Governors, that will be choosing the new chairman of the council. Given the fact, that Ashraf has a huge support from the leading party and has a lot of influence, he is expected to be the next PCB chairman.
“The Prime Minister, in his capacity as Patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board and in accordance with Article 10 (1) (d) of the PCB's constitution 2014, is pleased to nominate the following individuals for appointment as Members of the Board of Governors of PCB,” the official communication as quoted by Cricbuzz.
The election is likely to take place at the end of June and Pakistan People's Party led by Asif Ali Zardari Bhutto made it evident that there will be a change in the leadership as former chairman Najam Sethi comes from the rival group called Pakistan Muslim League. Earlier, he was given the charge for a period of four months but then his tenure was extended to two more months to solve the Asia Cup chaos and now since it has been sorted, Najam decided to step down from his position.
Salaam everyone! I don’t want to be a bone of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif. Such instability and uncertainty is not good for PCB. Under the circumstances I am not a candidate for Chairmanship of PCB. Good luck to all stakeholders.
