'You'll Be The Head Coach While I Would Have Played 100 Games...': Virat Kohli Looks Back At Journey With Rahul Dravid

Virat Kohli is the only player who is still part of the India squad from the side which had toured the Caribbean in 2011.

India will be taking on West Indies at the Windsor Park in Dominica for the just the second time in the history of bilateral cricket competition between the two teams. The first of the two Test matches of India's tour of West Indies is all set to get underway there later on Wednesday (July 12). While the first time the two teams met at this venue was in 2011, only Indian cricketer is still part of the team from the squad that toured the Caribbean in 2011 and that happens to be Virat Kohli who made his Test debut on that tour.

Interestingly, Rahul Dravid is also part of both the squads but in different capacities. While Dravid was part Kohli's teammate and a senior member of the team back then, he has returned as the head coach of the Indian men's cricket team in 2023. In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their social media handle, Kohli can be seen talking about his unique journey with Dravid.

"When we went to the dressing room and then practice, I kind of remembered my first series here as a Test player and this is the country where it all started - the Caribbean. And yeah, it is just amazing to be able to come back here 12 years later having played over 100 Test matches, I would never have imagined anything like this. I was his teammate at one point. He was a senior established Test player who we all looked up to. It's quite amazing," Kohli said in a video shared by BCCI.

"I told Rahul bhai yesterday as well that 'I'm sure you never would have imagined that 12 years later we would come back to the same venue and you'll be the head coach, while I would have played 100 games'. No one would have guessed that. So I am glad that we are the only two members from the last trip. Still here in different capacities but it's like life has come full circle. Our journeys have been quite amazing," he added.
