WTC 2023 Finals: Ex-Australian Captain Aaron Finch Picks India As Favourites — Here's Why

India will play against Australia in the second World Test Championship final that is scheduled to take place at the Oval in London from June 7-11. Pat Cummins’s led team were the first one to qualify for the finals of WTC on the basis of their win in the third Test against India of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Indore. While the Indian team made it into the finals after New Zealand outplayed Sri Lanka in their first Test match of the two-game series at home. 

In the last WTC Finals, team India under the leadership of Virat Kohli lost the match to the Black Caps two years back. However, former Australian skipper Aaron Finch thinks that India has a huge chance for the final.

While talking to Hindustan Times during the Legends League Cricket in Doha, he said, "I am not sure what Hardik's Test match plans but when you look at Shami, Umesh, Siraj and these guys, they are really very very good fast bowlers. Siraj is among the top bowlers in the world at the moment. He can all swing the ball. They beat England in England last time. So India have a huge chance for the final. They have a lot of bases covered whether they play one or two spinners”.

After being asked about what changes he is expecting from Australian side, Finch said, “They are not going to play three spinners, that's for sure (laughs)." Finch took retirement almost a month back from international cricket. He also reckoned that Australia should have defeated India in the recently passed Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

"They should have won 2-1. It is just that one hour of madness in Delhi," he said.

However, Australia did make a comeback after winning the third Test at Indore as they were written off after first two losses Nagpur and Delhi against India. The fourth and final Test match ended in a draw. The former Australia skipper also lauded Usman Khawaja and said, "Khawaja was amazing. But Australia also batted a bit longer and deeper in the game. It would have been easier for them to drop their heads after losing the toss in the third Test but the way they approached and bowled on the first morning was brilliant. And then to take a lead and get ahead in the game was pretty awesome as well. They deserved that Test win. They should have been 2-1 up in the series”.
