Why Was DRS Not Available For India When David Miller Edged Ravindra Jadeja's Delivery
The incident happened in the fourth ball of the 9th over of the innings when left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja seemingly produced an edge of the bat of David Miller that was pouched by the keeper.
The Decision Review System (DRS) is one example of how technology has improved the decisions that the officials tend to make competitive cricket matches. Although there still remain some loopholes in the DRS, by large the advent of the system has reduced the number of umpiring blunders. However, in one particular instance of the IND vs SA 3rd T20I at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, India were unable to opt for a DRS despite having reviews left in thier tank.
The incident happened in the fourth ball of the 9th over of the innings when left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja seemingly produced an edge of the bat of David Miller that was pouched by the wicketkeeper. While India appealed for a caught behind dismissal, the on-field umpire declared it not out. India, however, couldn't resort to a referral. This is because DRS was switched off due to a technical problem and there was no way but to carry on with the game. As replays later confirmed, Miller had actually edged the ball.

Soon after the DRS was back on and was available but fortunately for India, the lack of DRS availability did not cost them the match as the visitors registered a dominant 106-run win in the third and final T20I of the series to level it 1-1. Suryakumar Yadav was the star with the bat, scoring his fourth T20I hundred and ultimately departing on 100 off 56 balls while Kuldeep Yadav had a birthday to remember for the ages as he finished with five wickets for 17 runs in his four overs.
For the Proteas, Miller top-scored with 35 off 25 while captain Aiden Markram scored 25 off 14 but that was not enough as the hosts had set out to chase 202 to win in what was the final match of the series.
