WATCH: Towhid Hridoy, Soumya Sarkar Get Engaged In Argument During BPL Match After Umpire Signals Dead Ball

BPL 2023: After the incident Hridoy's innings took off while Soumya Sarkar had a forgettable outing both with the bat and ball.

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is once again in the headlines for a controversy that happened in the middle of a game. While previously it was star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who charged at the umpire, unhappy with the decision of the ball not being given a wide, this time around the umpire had to intervene as things started to get heated up between Towhid Hridoy and Soumya Sarkar.

It all happened in the match between the Dhaka Dominators and the Sylhet Strikers at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday. While Dhaka Dominators' Soumya Sarkar was running in to bowl the first ball of the 8th over, Sylhet Strikers' Towhid Hridoy, then batting on 15 off 12, decided to back out after the bowler's entire run up was over. Sakar did not hold back and completed his delivery, hitting the wickets but the umpire signalled it a deal ball.

Towhid Hridoy and Soumya Sarkar then got engaged in a heated argument in the middle of the ground and the umpire had to come to calm things down. A video of the incident has surfaced on social media.

Take a look at it here:

Sylhet Strikers beat Dhaka Dominators by 62 runs

Notably, the incident could be viewed as a turning point in the game. From here on, Hridoy's innings took off and he eventually ended up scoring 84 off 46 balls with the help of 5 fours and 5 sixes. Sarkar, meanwhile, gave away 40 runs in his 4 overs as Sylhet Strikers posted 201/8.

Chasing a massive total, Dhaka Dominators crumbled under scoreboard pressure and were bowled out for 139 in 19.3 overs. Sarkar, couldn't chip in with the bat either and only managed 6 runs off 9 balls. Mohammad Mithun's 42 off 28 and captain Nasir Hossain's 44 off 35 were the only real positives for Dhaka Dominators as they lost by 62 runs.
