WATCH: The amazing Super Over that helped MI reaching play-offs
Mumbai jumped to the 2nd position with 16 points while Chennai Super Kings are at the top with 9 wins and 18 points.
Before entering into Thursday night’s face-off, the Mumbai Indians (MI) desperately needed a win as they missed the ticket to play-offs against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 28. They returned strong and the manner in which they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad was simply astonishing.
Mumbai won the SUPER OVER at Wankhede to qualify for the play-offs after 2 years. It was the 2nd tie-breaker of this season that kept the cricket fans stuck to their TV screens till late in the night.
Opting to bat, MI scored 162 for five in the allotted 20 overs, and then, saw SRH end their innings at the same score.
Death over specialist Jasprit Bumrah yet again bowled a wonder as he bagged all the two wickets, bundling Hyderabad up at 8/2.
In pursuit of 9 runs, Hardik Pandya hammered Rashid Khan for a six over long off in the first ball and then Kieron Pollard took the side home with three balls to spare.
Here’s the video:
This victory turned out to be MI’s second-ever in the Super Over. Their first was against now-defunct Gujarat Lions (GL) at Rajkot on 29th April 2017 and it was also their first Super Over victory. At the same time, Mumbai jumped to the 2nd position with 16 points while Chennai Super Kings are at the top with 9 wins and 18 points. Earlier, Quinton de Kock's valiant knock of 69 (unbeaten) off 58 balls helped the Paltan to post 162/5. In the later innings, Pandey's (71 unbeaten off 47) last-ball six denied Mumbai a thrilling win as his fighting knock along with Mohammed Nabi's valuable (31 off 20) effort helped Hyderabad level the score in the stipulated 20 overs. Brief scores: Mumbai Indians 162/5 (Quinton de Kock 69, Rohit Sharma 24; Khaleel Ahmed 3/42) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 162/6 (Manish Pandey 71 not out, Mohammad Nabi 31; Hardik Pandya 2/20) in Super Over.MI clinch thrilling super over https://t.co/4clBHiwch7
