WATCH: Shaheen Afridi claims a 6-wicket haul to set 2 World Records

Shaheen Shah Afridi becomes the youngest bowler to take a five-for at a World Cup

Pakistan may have had failed to enter the World Cup 2019 semis but they made a glorious exit. There were several top-class performances during their game against Bangladesh on Friday at Lord’s. However, the one that grabbed all the limelight was Shaheen Shah Afridi’s 6-wicket haul. Playing just the first World Cup at senior level, it was a ‘dream come true’ outing for the 19-year-old youngster. He not only snared six wickets and returned with best ever figures (6/35) by a Pakistan bowler in a World Cup. Afridi took the wickets of Tamim Iqbal (8), Liton Das (32), Shakib, Mahmudullah (29), Mohammad Saifuddin (0) and Mustafizur Rahman (1) to the youngest to take a five-wicket haul in a World Cup. Here’s the video The ball that got Afridi his fifth scalp was a gem of a yorker which Mahmudullah failed to read. Afridi then removed Mustafizur Rahman (1) with a yorker to cap off a dream tournament in which he bagged 16 wickets in just five games – most World Cup wickets by a teenager. Pakistan needed to put on board a total of no less than 450 to stand a chance. But the way Pakistan batted, it seemed the 1992 champions were resigned to the fact that such a mammoth victory would remain out of their reach and it was business as usual for them. All they could manage was 315 for nine after electing to bat, courtesy Imam-ul-Haq (100) and Babar Azam (96), who added 157 runs for the second wicket. They bowled out Bangladesh for 221 in 44.1 overs to record their fourth win on the trot since suffering defeat at the hands of arch-rivals India.
