WATCH: Navdeep Saini Picks Two Crucial Wickets on ODI Debut in Cuttack
Saini took the field against the West Indies in the 3rd ODI in Cuttack which turned out to be a decent outing for the youngster
Navdeep Saini, on Sunday, became the 229th cricketer to represent India in One-Day Internationals. Saini took the field against the West Indies in the 3rd ODI in Cuttack which turned out to be a decent outing for the youngster.
He came up with a magnificent opening spell where he jolted the opposition by hunting down Shemron Hetmyer in the 30th over. A shorter delivery tempted the batsman to go for a big hit. Unfortunately, the ball took a thick top-edge and straight into the bucket hands of Kuldeep at deep square leg.
In his next over, Saini took down Roston Chase with a brilliant 139kph yorker.
Despite controlling the Windies batter in the beginning, the debutant received some hefty blows from the duo of Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran. He was smashed for 30 runs in his last 2 overs, finishing with match figures of 2/58.
Pooran scored 89 off 64 balls and his innings included 10 fours and three sixes. Pollard, on the other hand, smashed 74 off 51 balls, his innings punctuated by three fours and seven sixes.
West Indies plundered 118 runs in the last 10 overs to put up 315/5 in 50 overs.
The 27-year-old was inducted into the India side for the West Indies series as a late replacement for the injured Deepak Chahar.
