Was in my shorts when they told me 'you'll bowl the Super Over': Rabada
"I went upstairs, we still weren’t sure. Chris Morris had his clothes on, it was either me or him or I thought it could be Sandip too and then they said, it’s you," said Kagiso Rabada after defending 10 in the Super Over.
Kagiso Rabada was not even in the dugout when the Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders IPL 2019 match was in its climax. Rabada, instead was in his shorts, sitting in the dressing room with teammate Shikhar Dhawan, thinking his side would comfortably win the match.
As it turned out, the match ended in a tie and a Super Over was required to separate the two sides.
“Was sitting upstairs with Dhawan and we were having chat that this game is ours but you know they say cricket is a funny game, so I said to Shikhar let’s go downstairs and support the guys,” said Rabada, who landed four perfect yorkers in the to defend the lowest Super Over total(10) in IPL history.
The South African fast bowler said, the choice was between him, Chris Morris and Nepal leggie Sandip Lamicchane and in the end, the management decided to go with him.
“So I was sitting there in my shorts and then obviously, the match was tied... I was just hanging around waiting to see who’s gonna bowl and James Hopes said ‘go put your stuff on’... I went upstairs, we still weren’t sure. Chris Morris had his clothes on, it was either me or him or I thought it could be Sandip too and then they said, it’s you.
“I said okay better think of something quickly,” said Rabada. The home side managed just 10 runs in the Super Over bowled by paceman Krishna Prasidh but Rabada executed yorkers perfectly to deny KKR. He removed dangerous Andre Russell with a perfectly placed yorker and did not allow other batsmen, including captain Dinesh Karthik, to free their arms. KKR needed five off the final ball but managed just one. Chasing 186 to win, Delhi Capitals were set up nicely by Prithvi Shaw's 99 off 55 balls but they could not score six runs from the last over, bowled by chinaman Kuldeep Yadav, who held his nerves to give KKR a chance to steal a win. The Capitals ended their run chase at 185 for 6 in 20 overs, taking the match to Super Over."I was in my shorts, but then they told me - it's you!"
