VVS Laxman To Return As Stand-In Head Coach For Asian Games: Report
Asian Games 2023: Ruturaj Gaikwad led men's cricket team and Harmanpreet Kaur-led women's cricket team will compete in the continental tournament.
Lots of cricket is in store in the coming months which makes it an exciting time for lovers of the sport in this part of the world. While the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side is all set to compete in the forthcoming Asia Cup set to commence on August 30, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Eyes are also on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which will be played in October-Nobember in home. Even in between the two marquee events, there is no space as cricket has been introduced in the Asian Games in which India have decided to send both it's men's and women's teams.
While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already a named second-string Indian side to the Asian Games with the main players busy for the World Cup, a recent report carried by Times of India suggests that VVS Laxman is likely to travel with the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side as the head coach.
Meanwhile, as far as the women's side is concerned, it is the Harmanpreet Kaur-led full-strength squad that will compete in this competition and in the absence of a full-time head coach it is Hrishikesh Kanitkar who will accompany the women's side. The appointment of a head coach for the women's team, it is being reported, has been delayed till December which will mark the start of new international home season.
