Venkatesh Prasad denies applying for India's head coach

New Delhi: Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad on Thursday has dismissed reports that he has applied for the Indian coaching job.

Denying the rumours, Venkatesh Prasad clearly stated that he has no intentions of applying for the top post but is keen on working under the newly appointed coach (whether it is Ravi Shastri or Virender Sehwag) as an assistant or a bowling head.

“I haven’t sent in my application, and I don’t intend doing so,” Prasad, the chairman of the junior national selection committee, said from Hyderabad.

“I have no idea where these reports have stemmed from. I was both surprised and amused to read in the papers today that I am in the fray for the head coach. Nothing could be farther from the truth” Prasad told Wisden India.

Prasad has already served as a bowling coach for the Indian team in 2-year stint during 2007-09 and helped India claim historic Test series win against England in 27 years but was later released from his responsibilities following a disappointing campaign in WorldT20 and Champions Trophy in South Africa
