USA Loses Hosting Rights Of T20 World Cup 2024: Report

USA was set to co-host the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 along with West Indies.

The United States of America (USA) will no-longer co-host the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, a fresh media report has claimed. While USA was set to jointly host the T20 competition along with West Indies, it will be the Caribbean islands who will host the competition as a solo host, as per a fresh update.

The revelation has been made in a report carried by News18's Cricket Next. The reason for the decision to strip USA of its hosting rights has been cited as the absence of an elected cricketing body as well as no structure of a first-class cricketing system in the country.

In an official release last year, the ICC had confirmed that apart from the top eight teams in the T20 World Cup 2022, USA and West Indies will directly qualifify for the next edition of the marquee event as joint-hosts. Other two best-ranked teams will complete the 12-team competition.

However, if the recent media report is to be belived then there would definitely be some changes in this qualification criterion with USA no-longer hosting the competition.

“For jointly hosted World Cups we often contract with the Full Member (FM) as the host who is fully responsible for the delivery of the Event. The FM would then have a staging agreement with the relevant Members to ensure the successful staging of World Cup matches in other countries. In this case, Cricket West Indies have been contracted as World Cup hosts," ICC sources were quoted in this News18 report.

England are the current T20 World Cup champions and have the distinction of being the first team which holds the ODI World Cup as well as the T20 World Cup titles at the same time. England defeated Pakistan in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to lift their second title after having beaten New Zealand in the summit clash of the 2019 ODI World Cup.
