Simon Doull Not Convinced About India's Batting Prowess Heading Into World Cup

Simon Doull's remark comes at a time when India have qualified for Asia Cup 2023 final.

Even though most cricket experts are looking at the positives for Team India heading into the ODI World Cup, Simon Doull has made a massive statement on the team. The former New Zealand cricketer reckoned that India's cricket is too driven by statistics which is probably comes back to haunt them in big matches. He said that this is the reason why the Indian team fails to play a fearless brand of cricket as it would mean compromising on stats.

"Fearless cricket is there issue," Simon Doull told Sky Sports.

"They don’t play fearless cricket enough."

"They play statistics-driven cricket and they are too worried about their stats too often. And to me, that is the one area I am concerned about their batting side."

Doull reckoned that even though India have some of the finest cricketers on the planet it is their reluctance to play the fearless brand of cricket that have cost them the last few World Cups.

"They have got all the talent and some of the best players, if not the best players in the world."

"But it is about playing the fearless cricket at the right time of the tournament and I think that is what had really let them down in the last few World Cups.

"They don’t go out there and and take risks because they are so worried about what might be said or what might be printed or what might someone ask them about their place in the team. That’s the one area I am concerned with," said Doull.

Doull's remark comes at a time when India have qualified for Asia Cup 2023 final. The team though in incosequential game from the tourmament's perspective, faced a 6-run defeat to Bangladesh at the R Preamadasa Stadium in Colombo. Shubman Gill's hundred went in vain as the Men in Blue failed to chase down 266.
