Shikhar Dhawan Retires: Revisiting Mr. ICC's Top Records, Stellar Career Stats

As Shikhar Dhawan bids adieu to international and domestic cricket, here's a look at the legendary batter's top records and career stats.

Shikhar Dhawan, also known as Gabbar affectionately by fans and teammates, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on August 24 (Saturday). He took to his official social media handles to announce the news of him hanging his boots. Dhawan, who made his India debut back in 2010, enjoyed an illustrious career that spanned over 13 years. Over the years, Dhawan achieved many milestones, but he was most popular for his performances in big-stage ICC events, for which he even earned a title of Mr. ICC.

Shikhar Dhawan made his international debut in October 2010, but he truly announced his talent in 2013 with a record-breaking Test debut against Australia, scoring 187 runs off 174 balls and setting the record for the fastest century on Test debut.

Shikhar Dhawan's Dominance In ICC Tournaments

Dhawan shone brightly in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, where he was the top run-scorer with 363 runs in five innings and two centuries, won the Golden Bat and was named Player of the Tournament. Dhawan was one of the biggest contributors to India’s title win.

Dhawan was also the top run-scorer for India in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup with 412 runs in eight innings. In the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, he stood out again as he won the Golden Bat for the second time after making 338 runs in five innings with two fifties and a century. Moreover, he shares the record for the most centuries in ICC Champions Trophy history with Chris Gayle, Herschelle Gibbs and Sourav Ganguly. 

Dhawan was part of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup squad but had to withdraw due to injury after scoring a match-winning century against Australia.

In 2021, Dhawan received the Arjuna Award from the Government of India, recognizing his exceptional contributions and achievements in cricket.
