Saha India's best wicket-keeper in last 5-10 years: Ganguly

A shoulder injury has forced Wriddhiman Saha out of action as of now but he has been India's best wicketkeeper in the last five to ten years, reckons former captain Sourav Ganguly.

Wriddhiman Saha has been India’s best wicketkeeper in the last five to ten years, reckons former captain Sourav Ganguly. Out of the Indian Test for quite some time now, Saha is set to make a comeback to cricket in Demeber by turning up for Bengal in Ranji Trophy and Ganguly feels Saha should get his Test spot back immediately.

"He's out of the team for about a year now but I think in the last five to 10 years' he has been India's best wicket-keeper. Hope he recovers soon," Ganguly said.

Saha last played a Test match for India back in January at Cape Town when a hamstring injury forced him to fly back home. Since then, Saha has been crippled by multiple injuries. He battled a thumb problem in his on and off IPL season for the Sunriers Hyderabad but it was before the Afghanistan Test that he received the real blow when it was revealed by the BCCI that Saha needed a surgery on his shoulder that would keep him out of action for five to six months.

Five months after the surgery, Saha, widely known as the best wicket-keeper in the country, is now ready to make a comeback in December.

"Injury is not in your hands. Wicketkeeper has to dive and he got injured while diving. It takes a certain time to recover. The faster he recovers, the better it is," said Ganguly.

The injury cost Saha dearly as Rishabh Pant arrived in the scene and made the Test spot his own with a sparkling century at the Oval followed by a couple of 90+ scores against the Windies in the recently concluded Test series.

The Delhi stumper was also selected as India’s No.1 keeper for the Australia tour. The latter half of the Ranji Trophy, therefore, becomes crucial for Saha in his quest reclaim his Test spot back.
