Sachin Tendulkar Statue: The idol has been inaugurated at the Wankhede Stadium as a tribute to the cricketer's remarkable career.
Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary cricketer, has been immortalised with a life-sized statue at Mumbai's revered Wankhede Stadium. The statue was unveiled on the evening before India's seventh match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be held at the venue on November 2 (Thursday).
The unveiling ceremony of Tendulkar's statue commenced at 5:30 PM IST (Indian Standard Time) and was graced by several dignitaries, including Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, Treasurer Ashish Shelar, officials from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar himself, who was accompanied by his wife Anjali, and daughter Sara. The event was live-streamed on the official YouTube channel of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
The statue, portraying a graceful lofted shot, now stands near the Sachin Tendulkar Stand at the Wankhede Stadium. The sculpture was crafted by Pramod Kamble, an artist from Maharashtra. In 2009, Tendulkar became the first Indian sportsperson to have a wax statue at the renowned Madame Tussauds museum, an honour he received when he turned 36.

Sachin Tendulkar is universally recognized as one of the greatest cricketers in history, retiring as the most prolific batsman in international cricket. His statue at the Wankhede Stadium, where he played his last game for India nearly a decade ago against the West Indies in a two-match Test series in November 2013, is a tribute to his remarkable career. It was at this venue that Tendulkar fulfilled his dream by helping India win the World Cup in 2011.
Coming to the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, India are the hot favourites of the tournament having won each of their six games so far. They remain as the only undefeated team of the tournament with 12 points in six games. They are next slated to lock horns against Asian rivals Sri Lanka on November 3 (Thursday) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
