'Regrettable': CA Apologises After Racist Term Appears In Scorecard During Pakistan Match

Australia-based journalist Danny Saeed highlighted the same, after which Cricket Australia came up with the changes to the scorecard.

Cricket Australia (CA) has come up with an apology following a racial slur that happened on their scorecard during Pakistan’s four-day warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. On the first day of the game, the ticker came up with  ‘P**I’ in place of PAK, and soon it was noticeable. ‘P**I’ is a disrespectful term that is used against people of South Asian descent.

Australia-based journalist Danny Saeed highlighted the same, after which Cricket Australia came up with the changes to the scorecard.

“The graphic was an automatic feed from a data provider which had not been used previously for a Pakistan game. This was obviously regrettable, and the error we corrected manually as soon as it came to light,” CA wrote in a statement as per the Australian journalist.

Talking about the game, Shan Masood had a dream start as the Pakistan skipper collected his third double-hundred in first-class cricket. He remained unbeaten on 201 runs off 298 balls with 14 fours and a six as Pakistan managed to score 391 for the loss of nine wickets in 116.2 overs. Babar Azam and Sarfaraz Ahmed also played a useful hand as they scored 40 and 41 respectively. Abdullah Shafique made 38 runs off 76 balls with one four.

For the PMXI, Jordan Buckingham was the star with the ball as he scalped the important wickets of Imam-ul-Haq, Babar, Sarfaraz, Aamer Jamal, and Mir Hamza. Mark Steketee, Nathan McAndrew, and Todd Murphy picked up one wicket apiece.

Pakistan batters have shown terrific efforts and it will give them massive confidence ahead of the Test series against Australia. The Men in Green will be touring Australia for 3 Tests, starting on December 14 in Perth. The second Test will begin on Boxing Day, which is December 26 while the third Test will be in the new year, starting on January 3.
