Ranji Trophy Groups And Format Explained
The participating teams are clubbed into two groups in the Ranji Trophy: Plate and Elite. As many as thirty two teams are set to compete in the Elite Stage while the remaining six teams feature in the Plate division. Each team will play seven league games from the Elite Groups with the top two from each group entering the quarter-finals. On the other hand, the bottom two teams from all the four Elite groups combined get relegated to the Plate Group.
The six teams in the Plate Group play each other once with the top four proceeding to the knockout stage. The finalist makes a direct enetry into the Elite division for the subsequent season.
