Prithvi Shaw, Deemed Fit By NCA, Added In Mumbai's Ranji Trophy Squad
Prithvi Shaw's first assignment with Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy could be the Mumbai vs Bengal Ranji Trophy fixture set to begin at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on February 2
Cricketer Prithvi Shaw is all set to make his comeback in domestic cricket. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed the same by including the right-handed opener in their Ranji Trophy 2023-24 squad. The decision to include him in Mumbai's first-class squad comes after he received the clearnace from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) which suggested that he was fit for competitive cricket. Shaw finds a place for himself in a side which sees Ajinkya Rahane at the helm of affairs.
Shaw's first assignment with Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy could be the Mumbai vs Bengal Ranji Trophy fixture set to begin at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on February 2. The 24-year-old has been nursing a ligament injury since August last year. Earlier there were reports suggesting that Shaw's comeback could be delayed as the NCA was looking to check his preparedness to an extensive workload. However, it seems like the Delhi Capitals (DC) star has come out of that challenge with flying colours.
Prithvi Shaw Out Of India Reckoning Since 2021
Prithvi Shaw led India to an Under-19 World Cup triumph and was being looked at as the next big thing in Indian cricket. He was also compared to the likes of Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. But the weaknesses in his batting were exposed and he could not cement a place in the Indian team. Shaw has donned Indian colours in 5 Tests, 6 ODIs and a T20I and last represented India in a T20I against Sri Lanka in 2021. Shaw will continue to ply his trade for DC in IPL 2024 after being retained by the team before the mini-auctions and will harbour hopes of a national comeback with solid performances.
