PAK vs SA: Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Agha Power Pakistan To Tri-Series Final With Historic Run-Chase In Karachi

PAK vs SA: Rizwan and Salman combined for a massive 260-run partnership in the third match of the ODI tri-series at Karachi to guide the hosts to final.

Pakistan scripted history as they achieved their highest successful run-chase in ODIs during the Pakistan vs South Africa match of the ODI tri-series in Pakistan on February 12 (Wednesday) at the National Stadium in Karachi. Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan and vice-captain Salman Agha rewrote the record books with a historic partnership, helping their team to chase a mammoth target of 353 runs and lead the Men in Green to the tri-series final.

Rizwan and Salman combined for a massive 260-run partnership. This was also the first time the 1992 World Cup champions had chased a total exceeding 350, surpassing their previous best of 349 against Australia in 2022 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Both batters registered centuries, with Rizwan remaining unbeaten on 122 off 128 balls while Agha smashed 134 runs off just 102 balls.

Rizwan and Salman also recorded the highest partnership for Pakistan in a successful run-chase. Their 260-run stand is the first-ever 250-plus partnership by a Pakistani duo in a successful ODI chase. The duo also set the record for the highest partnership in ODI history for the fourth wicket or lower while chasing. Rizwan and Agha's stand also marked just the fourth instance of a 200-plus partnership for the fourth wicket in a run-chase.

Coming to the match, South Africa batted first and ended up with a strong 352-5 with Temba Bavuma, Matthew Breetzke and Heinrich Klaasen scoring 82, 83 and 87 runs respectively.

In response, Pakistan found themselves at 93-3 but Rizwan and Agha stitched together a 260-run partnership to steer Pakistan into the tri-series final.

An iconic moment occurred in the match when the Pakistani captain got to his hundred in style with a massive six off South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder.

Pakistan will now play against New Zealand in the ODI tri-series final on February 14 (Friday) at Karachi.
