NHAI Repairs Road At Rishabh Pant Accident Site After Claims That Potholes Caused Cricketer's Accident

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dhami told reporters that Pant was trying to avoid a pothole when he lost control of the vehicle.

Recent development in the Rishabh Pant accident case suggests that the wicketkeeper batter was trying to avoid potholes that led to his Mercedes losing control. Notably, the 25-year-old was driving from Delhi to Roorkee to surprise his mother for New Year when he met with an accident. Initial reports had suggested that Pant had dozed off while sleeping but Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the cricketer told him that he was trying to avoid potholes.

As soon as these reports had surfaced, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has reportedly taken prompt action and filled the potholes at the accident site early on Sunday. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) officials had made this claim first but later the Chief Minister said that Pant told him about the same himself.

"He (Pant) said that there was a pothole or something dark in front of him, and he lost control of the vehicle in an attempt to avoid that," Dhami had told the media after his visit to the hospital to meet the state's designated brand ambassador.

Pant could be moved to Mumbai

A few workers were reportedly spotted filling the potholes in the early hours of Sunday. It is worth highlighting that when the incident occurred on December 30, police officials had claimed that Pant slept off which was why he lost control of his car.

While Pant is currently being treated at a private hospital in Dehradun, once he is fit enough to travel, he could be moved to Mumbai where he will be under the supervision of the BCCI's empanelled doctor Dinshaw Pardiwala.

Director of the Delhi and District Cricket Association Shyam Sharma, who also paid a visit to Pant in the hospital, said that the board's doctors are in touch with the doctors treating him currently while BCCI Secretary Jay Shah is also monitoring Pant's health.

The Delhi Capitals captain can take 3-6 months to recover and could miss the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
