Netherlands' Bas De Leede Makes Embarrassing All-Time Bowling Record In ODIs During World Cup 2023 Clash Against Australia

De Leede broke an embarrassing all-time bowling record in ODIs during Netherlands vs Australia ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 clash.

During the 24th match of the ICC Men's World Cup 2023 between Netherlands and Australia on October 25 in Delhi, Netherlands' Bas de Leede had a forgettable day and became the owner of an embarrassing all-time bowling record. The Dutch cricketer record the most expensive bowling spell in the history of ODI cricket. Bas de Leede conceded 115 runs in his 10 overs, marking the most expensive bowling spell in the history of ODI cricket.

De Leede surpassed the previous record held by Australia's Mick Lewis, set during the memorable South Africa vs. Australia ODI in 2006 in Johannesburg, where both teams scored over 400 runs in each inning. Earlier in the year, Adam Zampa equalled this record against South Africa. In Australia's late onslaught, De Leede was struck for 6 sixes and 13 boundaries. This onslaught also featured a 28-run 49th over against Glenn Maxwell, who notched the fastest World Cup hundred, surpassing Aiden Markram's record.

Initially, de Leede had a decent start to his spell, maintaining a reasonable economy rate. However, as the Australian batters settled into their groove, they began targeting de Leede's bowling, hitting him for multiple boundaries. Despite adjusting his line and length, de Leede struggled to stop the flow of runs.

David Warner Registers Back-to-Back Tons

De Leede came close to dismissing David Warner, but the third umpire overturned the decision and Warner went on to register his second hundred of the ongoing tournament, having scored one already in the last match against Pakistan. Although Leede managed to take the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne and Josh Inglis, the middle phase of his spell saw the Aussies launching a more aggressive attack. With the Australian batters well-settled, they took full advantage of de Leede's bowling, dispatching his deliveries to all parts of the ground.

Furthermore, with this performance, Bas de Leede also registered the most expensive spell in a World Cup match. The previous record was held by Rashid Khan, who conceded 110 runs without taking any wickets in his 9 overs against England in the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Most expensive ODI bowling figures:

- Bas de Leede: 115-2 (10)
- Adam Zampa: 113-0 (10)
- Mick Lewis: 113-0 (10)
- Wahab Riaz: 110-0 (10)
- Rashid Khan: 110-0 (9)

Australia, after choosing to bat first, piled up a massive total of 399/8 in their 50 overs, primarily due to Glenn Maxwell's rapid century following David Warner's 93-ball 104. In response, the Dutch were bowled out for 90.
