Other than his personal life, Hardik was even booed by fans at stadiums after he replaced Rohit Sharma as the captain of Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2024. He opened up on the same during Team India's interactive session with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the team's return from Barbados.
