The right-handed batter who was out of reckoning for a place in the Indian national team before he sustained an injury scored a sensational 159 in Raipur, highlighting that he is close to finding his midas touch.

It is pertinent to note that Shaw had gone to the United Kingdom (UK) to participate in their domestic One-Day Cup and had registered scores of 244 and 125 before he ended up getting injured. It was later revealed that Shaw has suffered a grade-II tear of the posterior cruciate ligament. The 24-year-old has been on the sidelines due to a knee injury and played a competitive match after six months against Bengal where he scored 35.

The 24-year-old played has represented five Test matches, six ODIs and a solitary T20I. He played his first International match for the senior men's cricket team in 2018. He last plied his trade for the the men's cricket national in a T20I against Sri Lanka in Colombo in July 2021. Post that, the Delhi Capitals (DC) star accumulated 595 runs at an average of 59.50. However, he sustained an injury at the wrong time as it meant his wait for a national call-up got extended.

Ahead of IPL 2024, Shaw has been retained by the franchise. Expressing his opinion on the same, voice of Indian cricket Harsha Bhogle said that Shaw was fortunate to have been retained by the team.

"Prithvi Shaw might be a bit lucky to be retained by @DelhiCapitals because he has, unfortunately, acquired the reputation of being difficult to handle. I hope he works hard towards changing that perception because on song, he is one of the most destructive power play batters in the game," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
