MS Dhoni & Suresh Raina, Former CSK Teammates, Reunite Days Before IPL Retention Deadline
Suresh Raina recently met with former CSK captain MS Dhoni, sharing a moment with his longtime CSK and India teammate just before the IPL 2025 retention deadline.
Suresh Raina, the former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player recently reunited with former India and CSK captain MS Dhoni. Raina took to his official social media handles to upload a picture of him with Dhoni on October 29 (Tuesday). Interestingly, the reunion took place just two days prior to the deadline for the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams to submit their players’ retention list for the 2025 mega auction i.e. October 31.
Raina and Dhoni both played together for India and CSK as well. At CSK, they have both won IPL titles together for the franchise in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. With Dhoni still playing for CSK, Raina retired from all forms of cricket in 2022. Despite having retired, Raina still stands as one of the most standout IPL players, having amassed over 5500 runs in 205 matches.

MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina share a strong friendship, evident by the fact that they both announced retirement from international cricket on the same day — August 15, 2020.
Dhoni debuted for India in 2004, with Raina joining the national team in 2005. Dhoni took over as India’s all-format captain in 2008, with Raina serving under his leadership for many years and even stepping in as his deputy at one point. Raina also captained the team in Dhoni’s absence.
CSK Likely To Retain MS Dhoni For IPL 2025
MS Dhoni has hinted at a potential return for IPL 2025, expressing a desire to enjoy his "last few years of cricket." Speculation about Dhoni’s future increased after he handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad last season and adjusted his batting position lower in the order. As the October 31 franchise retention deadline nears, CSK might retain Dhoni under a new rule allowing players retired from international cricket for five years to be classified as uncapped.
