Australian spinner Matthew Kuhnemann has been reported for a suspected bowling action after the conclusion of Sri Lanka vs Australia 2nd Test. The left-arm off-spinner was the marquee bowler for reigning World Test champions throughout the series, as he sclaped 16 wickets to torment Sri Lankan batters in their own backyard.

Crikcet Australia confirmed the news, and stated that the bowler will be undergoing an assessment to determine the legality of his bowling action.

The 28-year-old recorded the second-best figures by an Australian spinners in a two-match Test series, with the record being held by Nathan Lyon, who scalped 22 wickets against Bangaldesh back in 2017.

The latest ICC protocols, as in-effect from September 2018, state that "once the bowler's arm has reached the level of the shoulder in the delivery swing, the elbow joint is not straightened partially or completely from that point until the ball has left the hand."

If a match referee, or an umpire feels like there is some sort of degree issue with the elbow of a 'certain' bowler, a complaint can be raised against the player to the ICC after the end of the match within 24 hours.

"The Australian team was notified of the match officials' referral following the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle and will support Matt through the process of clearing this matter," CA said in a statement released today. Matt has played 124 professional matches since his debut in 2017, including five Test matches and four one-day internationals."

"He has played 55 Big Bash League games since 2018. This is the first time in those eight years of professional cricket that his action been questioned. Cricket Australia will liaise closely with the ICC and independent experts in line with ICC regulations. No further comment will be made by Cricket Australia or Matthew until the matter is resolved."
