'Jabse IPL Shuru Huyi Hai..' Wasim Akram Points Out Why India Has Not Won A T20 WC Since 2008
Former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram pointed out why India has not won a World Cup since IPL started.
New Delhi: The Men in Blue under the leadership of Rohit Sharma has failed to seal the final spot in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022. Team India entered the meat event as one of the favorites, but they had a terrible run as they lost to England in the semi-finals. After England thrashed India, Rahul Dravid talked about whether or not featuring in overseas leagues went against the Indian players.
“There's no doubt about it that England players have come and played in this tournament (Big Bash League). It's tough, it's very difficult for Indian cricket because a lot of these tournaments happen right at the peak of our season. I think it's a huge challenge for us. A lot of our boys do miss out on the opportunity of playing in these leagues. But it's up to the BCCI to make that decision, but the thing is that it's right in the middle of our season,” Dravid said.
Former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram reacted to Dravid’s statements and pointed out why India has not won a World Cup since IPL started.
"Sabko yahi tha ki IPL se India ko bada fark padega because IPL started in 2008. Usse pehle India 2007 me T20 World Cup jeeta. Jabse IPL shuru huyi hai, aaj tak, abhi bhi unfortunately, India kabhi T20 World Cup nahi jeeta. So usse phir ek question uthta hai - ki kya fark padta hai ki, jo main ek interview sun raha tha abhi, ki unke players jo overseas jaake leagues nahi khelte, ek extra league khelne ki bhi permission mil jaye, kya fark padega in logon ki approach mein? (Everybody was of the view that India will benefit from the IPL. They last won a T20 World Cup in 2007. Since the IPL started in 2008, unfortunately, they have till date not managed to win another T20 World Cup," Akram said during a conversation on A Sports.
Despite having a topsy-turvy start, Pakistan managed to reach the finals of the T20 World Cup 2022. They will be playing against England in Melbourne on Sunday.
