Form Slump No Barrier: Rohit Sharma In Line For Special Honor

Rohit Sharma's current form has been a concern for Mumbai Indians, but the upcoming honor may serve as a morale boost.

Rohit Sharma is currently playing in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 but is going through a rough patch with the bat. In the four matches played so far, he has not been able to deliver any impactful performance. Despite this, the star batter is set to receive a major honor.

Rohit Sharma to receive special recognition

According to a report in The Indian Express, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is considering naming a stand at the Wankhede Stadium after Rohit Sharma. The proposal was discussed during a recent council meeting, and if approved, Rohit will be immortalized at the iconic venue where he began his journey.

Disappointing IPL season so far

Rohit has had a poor run in IPL 2025. He was dismissed for a duck against CSK, followed by scores of 8, 13, and 17 against GT, KKR, and RCB respectively. His current form has been a concern for Mumbai Indians, but the upcoming honor may serve as a morale boost.

India's second most successful captain

Despite his recent struggles, Rohit Sharma remains one of Indian cricket team's most successful captains. He led the team to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy, making him second only to MS Dhoni in terms of ICC titles. Dhoni won the T20 World Cup in 2007, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

If the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) goes ahead with the decision, a stand named after Rohit Sharma at Wankhede will be a well-deserved tribute to his contributions to Indian cricket.

Mumbai Indians squad for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025: Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton(w), Will Jacks, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya(c), Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, Ashwani Kumar, Vignesh Puthur, Corbin Bosch, Raj Bawa, Robin Minz, Satyanarayana Raju, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Karn Sharma, Reece Topley, Bevon Jacobs, Krishnan Shrijith, Arjun Tendulkar.
