Kolkata May Lose IPL 2025 Final Due To Monsoon Forecast - Details Inside

While Kolkata was initially set to host the playoffs and final, the venue is now reportedly under reconsideration due to potential rainfall in early June.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced that the remaining matches of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will resume from May 17, with the final scheduled for June 3.

The tournament was temporarily suspended after Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match on May 8 in Dharamshala was cancelled due to a blackout caused by an attempted airspace intrusion by Pakistan near Chandigarh. Following a ceasefire between the two nations, the league is now set to continue.

League stage across six cities

According to the revised IPL 2025 schedule, the remaining league matches will be played in the following six cities: Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai.

The first match after IPL 2025 resumption will feature Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kolkata Knight Riders in Bengaluru on May 17. A total of 17 matches are scheduled, including two Sunday double-headers.

Playoff schedule announced, venues under review

Qualifier 1 – May 29

Eliminator – May 30

Qualifier 2 – June 1

Final – June 3

While Kolkata was initially set to host the playoffs and final, the venue is now reportedly under reconsideration due to potential rainfall in early June. Weather forecasts from Accuweather.com predict thunderstorms between May 29 and June 3, prompting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to explore alternatives.

As per reports, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is actively engaging with the BCCI to retain the IPL 2025 final at Eden Gardens, having secured the hosting rights after 12 years.

The final decision regarding the playoff venues is expected in the coming days, depending on updated weather forecasts and logistical evaluations.

IPL 2025 Final in Ahmedabad?

It is likely that the grand finale will be instead moved to Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium or Mumbai, due to more favorable weather conditions.

As per a Revsportz report, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has submitted a report from the Meteorological Department to BCCI, stating that it is unjustified to shift IPL 2025 final from Kolkata based on speculative forecasts, as predicting rain on June 3 with certainty is not possible.

CAB report emphasizes that it is too early to make an accurate prediction for June 3, stating that a dependable weather forecast will only be possible around May 25.
