New Delhi: The Men in Blue coach Rahul Dravid stated that India’s skipper Rohit Sharma will not be playing in the upcoming third and final One Day International (ODI) of the three-match series between India and Bangladesh. The Indian team suffered a huge blow when skipper Rohit Sharma sustained an injury during the second ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur on Wednesday. He had a thumb injury while fielding. Post that, the medical team of BCCI evaluated and took him for scans.
“We are struggling with a few injuries as well which is not ideal and not easy for us. I think Deepak (Chahar) and Rohit (Sharma) will certainly miss the next match. Kuldeep is also out of the series. Rohit will fly back to Bombay, consult with an expert to see how it is, and confirm whether he can come back for the Test series or not. It is too early to say anything but he will be out for the next match for sure,” Dravid told reporters.
Earlier, after batting first, Bangladesh scored 271/7 with the help of Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s 100 not out. He also forged a 148-run partnership with Mahmudullah who also scored 77 runs. For India, Washington Sundar scalped three wickets while Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik took two wickets each.
In reply to that, India had a terrible start but then Shreyas Iyer made 82 runs while Axar Patel scored a run-a-ball 56. India ended up posting 266 for nine in 50 overs.
Despite India losing the match, the highlight was Rohit Sharma’s brilliant cameo as he remained unbeaten on 51 off 28 balls. India are also set to play a two-match Test series with hosts Bangladesh in their ongoing tour.
