IND vs ENG: Nasser Hussain Slams Ben Duckett Over Comments On Yashasvi Jaiswal

Nasser Hussain suggested that Ben Duckett and the England team should take the opportunity to learn from Yashasvi Jaiswal's performance in the ongoing 5-match Test series between India and England.

Nasser Hussain, the ex-England captain, has strongly responded to Ben Duckett's remarks regarding Yashasvi Jaiswal's aggressive batting. The 55-year-old expressed optimism that England would engage in self-reflection following their significant 434-run defeat on February 18 (Sunday) to India in the 3rd India vs England Test held in Rajkot.

Following Jaiswal's impressive century on the third day of the IND vs ENG Test in Rajkot, English batsman Ben Duckett remarked that they should receive credit for encouraging players to adopt an aggressive playing style. However, the 29-year-old opener faced considerable criticism for his statement.

'He's Not Learnt From You' Says Hussain

In an interview with Sky Sports, Nasser Hussain emphasised that Jaiswal's solid foundation has been instrumental in his success, asserting that he serves as an inspiration to fellow players.

"He's not learnt from you. He's learnt from his upbringing, all the hard yards he had to put in growing up. If anything, lads, look at him and learn from him. I hope there's a little bit of self-introspection going on. Otherwise it becomes a cult - and, at times, Bazball and this regime has been described as such, where you cannot criticise within or externally," Hussain said.

Hussain further acknowledges the positive atmosphere within the England team bubble, expressing appreciation for the team's optimistic outlook. However, he also emphasises the importance of balancing positivity with realism, especially when facing challenging situations, such as chasing a substantial target like 600 runs in India during the final innings, which may not be a practical option.

"When you're living in an environment in a bubble that has got so much good messaging and positive vibes, you go into a press conference and you're never going to step back and go, 'they may have got too many and we're just going to play for a draw'. I enjoy their positivity but there has to be a little bit of realism in there as well. Obviously, chasing 600 in India batting last is not a particularly good option to look,” stated Hussain.

Ben Duckett's Comment Post Yashasvi's Match-Winning Performance

After the close of play on day three of the 3rd IND vs Eng Test in Rajkot, in his praise for the Indian opener, Duckett attributed the batter’s performance to England.

“When you see players from the opposition playing like that, it almost feels like we (England) should take some credit that they’re playing differently than how other people play Test cricket,” Duckett said in the post-match press conference.
