IND vs ENG: Another England Pacer Injured Ahead Of Headingley Test

Fast bowler Josh Tongue, who was named in England’s squad for the first Test, suffered an injury while playing for the England Lions against India A.

England’s troubles ahead of the Test series against India continue to grow. Even before the Headingley Test, the team has been hit by multiple injury setbacks.

Fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson are already sidelined, and now another pacer has joined the list—raising serious concerns about England’s fast-bowling depth.

Josh Tongue likely to Miss 1st Test

Fast bowler Josh Tongue, who was named in England’s squad for the first Test, reportedly suffered an injury while playing for the England Lions against India A.

As per a report by ESPN Cricinfo, Tongue bowled just four overs in the second innings before walking off the field due to discomfort. He had earlier taken two wickets in the first innings and was expected to be part of the playing XI at Headingley.

The 26-year-old made his Test debut in 2023 and has played three matches so far, claiming 12 wickets. With his availability now uncertain, England’s fast bowling attack appears severely weakened just days before the series opener on June 20.

England’s Injury Crisis Worsens

England captain Ben Stokes is facing increasing challenges with his fast-bowling lineup ahead of the Test series against India. Key pacers like Mark Wood are already ruled out due to injury, and now Josh Tongue and Ollie Stone have also been sidelined.

With so many injuries, England’s bowling attack features several newcomers, with only Chris Woakes providing experience. Stokes himself is bowling sparingly, likely managing his fitness.

In contrast, India boasts a strong and fresh batting lineup, giving captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir some comfort ahead of the crucial Headingley Test.
