After India declared their first innings at 347-9, seamer Ishant Sharma wreaked the B'desh top order by dismissing opener Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque (c) for ducks.

Hosts India were in cruise control at Tea on Day 2 of the Day-night Test against Bangladesh at Edens Gardens in Kolkata. After India declared their first innings at 347-9, seamer Ishant Sharma wreaked the B'desh top order by dismissing opener Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque (c) for ducks. At Tea, Bangladesh were reeling at 7/2 with Imrul Kayes and Mohammad Mithun (wk) batting at the crease. Hosts India declared their first innings at 347-9 on Day 2 of the Eden Gardens Test at Kolkata, taking a massive 241 run lead over Bangladesh. India's superlative batting effort in the first innings was spearheaded by skipper Kohli's 27th ton and half tons by Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara. Bangladesh seamers came back strongly picking up five wickets in the post lunch session with Abu Jayed and Al-Amin running through the Indian lower middle order and the tail. While Abu Jayed removed Jadeja on the first ball after tea, R Ashwin fell cheaply at 9 to Al-Amin. Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma did not trouble the scores, getting out for ducks. Wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha (wk) and Mohammed Shami were batting at the crease when skipper Virat Kohli called for the declaration. At the time of lunch break, India were at 289/4, with Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja batting at 130 and 12 respectively. India continued their domination on the second day as they added 115 runs to their overnight score 174/3. Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane resumed the innings and went to stitch a crucial 99 for the 4th wicket. Meanwhile, Rahane brought up his 22nd fifty which was also his fourth consecutive in the longest format. However, he failed to convert it into a hundred as he was taken down by Taijul Islam in the 62nd over. The Indian vice-captain attempted a drive towards the backward point but the ball went into the air and was easily taken by Ebadat Hossain.
