Rohit Sharma Shatters Gayle's Record: Crowned King Of ICC ODI Tournaments

Rohit Sharma set a new record by surpassing Chris Gayle's long-standing milestone with a six.

The first semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025 between India and Australia is being played in Dubai. Australia, after batting first, posted a total of 264 runs.

In response, India's opening duo, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, took the crease. During his innings, Rohit Sharma set a new record by surpassing Chris Gayle's long-standing milestone with a six. He was eventually dismissed for 28 runs off 29 balls.

Rohit Sharma breaks Chris Gayle's record

Rohit Sharma had equaled West Indies legend Chris Gayle's record in India's previous match against New Zealand. However, with a six against Australia, he now holds the record for the most sixes in ICC ODI tournaments (including the ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy).

Gayle has now dropped to second place, while Australia's Glenn Maxwell sits third with 48 sixes.

Most sixes in ICC ODI tournaments:

Rohit Sharma – 65 sixes

Chris Gayle – 64 sixes

Glenn Maxwell – 48 sixes

David Miller – 45 sixes

Rohit's dominance in ICC ODI tournaments

Rohit Sharma has been a standout performer in ICC ODI tournaments. Across 42 matches, he has so far scored 2,160 runs, including 8 centuries and 10 half-centuries.

Along the way, he has smashed 231 fours and now holds the record for 65 sixes, making him as one of the most explosive batters in global tournaments.

Hitman's Humiliation: Two lives, wasted review!

Chasing 265, Rohit Sharma opened the innings with Shubman Gill but struggled against Australian pacers from the start. Despite getting two lifelines, he failed to capitalize and was dismissed for 28 off 29 balls.

Rohit fell to Australia's part-time spinner Cooper Connolly, misjudging the delivery and getting trapped in front of the stumps. He reviewed the decision, but the on-field umpire's call stood.

Rohit Sharma's struggles in Champions Trophy 2025 continue. In four matches, he has scored just 104 runs at an average of 26, with a highest score of 41. Following a slump in Tests, his ODI form is also under scrutiny. If India reaches the final, it could be his last big chance to deliver in the tournament.
