India bowled Australia out for 234 runs in the third innings of the India vs Australia Boxing Day Test on Day 5 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. With that, India need 340 runs to win the IND vs AUS 4th Test and go 2-1 up in the five-match series. Nathan Lyon was the last wicket to fall before he formed a 61-run partnership for 10th wicket with Scott Boland, much to the frustration of Indians. Indian ace pace Jasprit Bumrah picked the last wicket and completed yet another five-wicket haul as he claimed figures of 5-57 in 24.4 overs.

At once stage, India had Australia 91-6, looking set for a target of below 250. However, a 57-run partnership between Marnus Labuschagne and Pat Cummins followed by the 61-run stand of Lyon and Boland, India were handed out a stern task with the 340-run target. Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped three chances in the field as the Aussies kept the runs ticking.

Bumrah Makes History With 200 Test Wickets

Earlier in the innings, Jasprit Bumrah delivered a fiery spell, dismissing first-innings half-centurion Sam Konstas before taking the scalps of Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey in quick succession. His impactful performance brought India back into the contest after conceding a 105-run lead. Bumrah also made history by becoming the fastest Indian pacer to reach 200 Test wickets.

Bumrah achieved the milestone of 200 Test wickets in just 44 matches, making him the fastest Indian pacer to do so. By reaching this landmark, he joined cricketing greats like Pat Cummins, Ravindra Jadeja, Kagiso Rabada, Richard Hadlee and Joel Garner. In terms of deliveries bowled to achieve the feat, Bumrah ranks as the fourth-fastest, surpassing West Indies legend Malcolm Marshall. With an exceptional average of 19.39 across 202 Test wickets, Bumrah now holds the best bowling average among players with over 200 Test dismissals.

In the ongoing BGT, Bumrah has 30 wickets to his name at an extraordinary average of 12.83, while the second highest wixket-taker is Australian captain Pat Cummins, with 19 scalps to his name.
