ICC Likely To Ban Shakib Al Hasan For 6 Months Over Not Reporting Match-Fixing Offer: Report
Reportedly, Shakib was approached by a bookie with a match-fixing offer around two years ago. Though the all-rounder denied the offer, he did not report the unlawful approach to the national cricket board.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is likely to ban Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for up to six months for not reporting a match-fixing approach, as per a report in a leading Bangladesh daily.
The development comes as a major blow to the Bangladesh team ahead of their tour of India which commences on November 03 with a three-match T20I series followed by a two-match Test series.
Reportedly, Shakib was approached by a bookie with a match-fixing offer around two years ago. Though the all-rounder denied the offer, he did not report the unlawful approach to the national cricket board.
ICC 's Anti Corruption Unit was doing their call tracking of suspected people and found out that Shakib had spoken to a blacklisted bookie . Sources said , ICC s anti corruption unit has spoken to Shakib regarding his failure to inform the authorities.
The report further states that Shakib has already met and spoken to ICC Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been informed about the potential ban which can be imposed on the player. Shakib will be banned from all forms of cricket with six months being the minimum period of punishment he can be handed. The ICC is expected to confirm Shakib's ban soon, as per the report.
