Matthew Short Eyes Replacing David Warner: The opening slot for Australia in T20I remains vacant in the aftermath of David Warner's retirement, and a certain Aussie has his eyes set on it. Read below.

Matthew Short Eyes Replacing David Warner: Australian opener Matthew Short has expressed his desire of replacing legendary David Warner as Australia's first-option for the opening slot in the T20I's. For more than a decade, 'The Bull' was undisputed starter for Australia across all formats, and with him announcing his international retirement, the slot remains vacant.

Matthew Short is one of the most promising players for Australia, and with Travis Head now replacing David Warner as Australia's undisputed starter, the onus now lies on the batting all-rounder to live up to the billing.

"Obviously, with Davey Warner out, you sort of know that the spot's opened up. But then Jake Fraser-McGurk has been playing the last few games in Scotland, so you never know where you sit. But I'm glad I sort of took that opportunity tonight and played my role to help the team with a win tonight," said Matthew Short, as reported by ICC.

"It's a personal sort of goal of mine. I've been in and out of the side recently over the last 12-18 months. Now Dave is out, I'm really trying to take this opportunity and cement my spot in this side. It's a pretty clear game plan from the coaching staff. Just go out there with freedom and take the positive options. Trav [Travis Head] and I sort of go into the games with that mindset," he added.
