'He Could Have Rotated Strike': Dale Steyn On Cheteshwar Pujara's 54-Ball 8 Run Inning

"I saw something come up and it was like 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 4, 4, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0 and then a wicket. I'm sure in all those 50 balls, he [Cheteshwar Pujara] could have rotated the strike," Dale Steyn said in an interview

Southampton: India vs New Zealand's World Test Championship Final (WTC) has seen a tough battle between bat and ball. Indian batsmen were not able to break free on Day 2, and the same trend is continuing on Day 3 as well.  India lost Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant early. But one of the highlights of Day 2 was Cheteshwar Pujara's slow innings.

The Indian one-down batsman scored 8 runs on 54 balls, out of which 52 balls were dots. Pujara is known for playing such innings' but he isn't criticised as he manages to convert these starts into big scores. But his innings in the WTC Final has earned him some criticism from one of the best fast-bowlers of our time, Dale Steyn.

Dale Steyn said that Pujara has many chances to rotate strike. Just feeding off boundaries, is not right in a Test match. "You want to see somebody like Pujara. Now he faced 50 balls and we know that this is kind of player that he is. But I'm sure if he looked back and looked at the sample of video analysis, he would find that there are deliveries there where he could have created the opportunity to maybe rotate a little bit more strike," the South Africa pacer said.

"I saw something come up and it was like 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 4, 4, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0 and then a wicket. I'm sure in all those 50 balls, he could have rotated strike and just gotten that scoring to nudge on a little bit for himself and as well as his team," he continued.

Meanwhile, on Day 3 India has got the worst possible start as they lose their entire top order. Kohli, Pant and Rahane all got out since the morning's play on Day 3.
