Gautam Gambhir's BIG Statement On Dressing Room Rift Rumours; Calls Performance 'The Only Thing' For Selection
Gautam Gambhir breaks silence on Dressing Room conversation leaks, and further went on to define the main parameter for selection. Read below for details.
Gautam Gambhir addressed the media personnel on Thursday, January 2, as the Sydney Test now sits less than 24 hours away from commencement. During the interview, the Indian Cricket Team Head coach broke his silence on the latest Dressing Room conversation leaks, by stating that 'conversations should remain in dressing room'.
"Debates between coach and player should remain in dressing room. Stern words. They were just reports not truth. Indian cricket will be in safe hands till honest people stay in the dressing room. Only thing that keeps you in the dressing room is performance. There were honest words and honesty is important," said Gautam Gambhir.
'Team Above Individuals': Gautam Gambhir's Strong Take On Winning Mentality
Gautam Gambhir's conversation with team India in the Dressing Room went viral, as several reports yesterday stated that the Indian team head coach was frustated at certain players' 'natural game' that sometimes hamper the interests of team.
This rumour was a direct indication at Rishabh Pant's reckless and careless approach, with him giving away his wickets in both innings against Australia, in the Boxing Day Test, which eventually resulted in India's humiliating defeat at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
"There is only one tendency and there is only one discussion - it's the team first ideology that matters. You need to play what the team needs. You can still play your natural game in a team sport - but if the team needs you - you need to play in a certain way," said Gautam Gambhir.
India will be hoping for a better turnaround in their 2025 cricketing action, as the side are currently under immense pressure after recording a string of humiliating defeats at the hands of New Zealand and Australia.
The Sydney Test will be the last match of the BGT 2024-25 series, before India turn their attention to ODI's for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
