At the India@2047 summit, Gautam Gambhir weighs in on whether Virat and Rohit fit into India’s plans for the next 2 years.
Days before cricketing legend Virat Kohli announced his test retirement, Indian Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir, made a prediction regarding the former captain & star batter during the event at India at 2047 Summit on May 6 (Tuesday).
Gambhir was asked during the event if he sees Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as a part of Team India in the next two years. To this, the ICT head coach had an interesting reply.

"Till the time they are performing, they should be part of the team. When you start and when you choose to stop — that’s your individual decision. No coach, no chairman, no selector and not even the BCCI can tell you that you have to retire now," said Gautam Gambhir.
"If you keep performing, you can play till 40 or even 45. Who’s stopping you? Till the time they are performing, they should be a part of it (Team India). Shuru kab aap karte aur kab aap khatam karte hain, voh aapka individual decision hai," explained Gambhir.
"Na koi coach, na koi chairman, na koi selector, na koi BCCI aapko yeh bata sakti hai ki aapko abhi khatam krna hai. aap perform krte rahiye aap 40 kya 45 tak khelte rahiye. Kisi ne mana thodi na kiya hai).” he added.

“See, ultimately it's their decision — but what matters more is their performance. Only performance can get them selected in the team.(Yeh ultimately yeh unka decision hai, usse zyada matter karta hai unka performance. Performance hi unko team mei select karwa sakti hai.)”
