Former Fielding Coach Robin Singh Applies For Indian Team's Head Coach Post

Robin was India's fielding coach during 2007-09 and has varied experience in coaching a number of teams for the last 15 years.

Former Indian fielding coach Robin Singh has applied for the post of Indian cricket team's head coach. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had invited fresh applications for the top job after incumbent coach Ravi Shastri's contract expired following the culmination of the ICC World Cup 2019. Shastri along with other support staff have been for now given a 45-day extension for the upcoming West Indies tour which commences on July 03. Robin was India's fielding coach during 2007-09 and has varied experience in coaching a number of teams for the last 15 years. It is notable that after former head coach Greg Chappell resigned, Robin along with bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad, also managed the team on an interim basis, during which the Indian team won the inaugural edition of the World T20 in 2007 under MS Dhoni's captaincy. Robin has also coached the Indian U-19 and 'A' sides and enjoyed a successful stint at Indian Premier League (IPL) side Mumbai Indians and has also coached Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League. The Tridents played two semi-finals and reached the title clash of the Carribean Premier League under his mentorship, while Mumbai Indians have won four IPL titles with Robin being part of the support staff with the team in various capacities. Reflecting on his decision to apply for the head coach post, Robin said it's a good time for a change in the Indian backroom staff looking at the next World Cup. " Under the current coach, India has lost in the semifinals of two successive ODI World Cups, and in the last four stages of the World Twenty20 championship as well. Now is the time to prepare for the 2023 World Cup and a change could be good for the side," he was quoted as saying in a report.
