Former Bangladesh Captain Mashrafe Mortaza Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Earlier in the day, the family members of BCCI President Sourav Ganguly tested positive for COVID-19.

Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza has tested positive for Coronavirus (Covid-19). Bangladesh daily Dhaka Tribune confirmed the news quoting a source.

"Mashrafe complained of fever on Thursday night. On Friday, his sample for COVID-19 test was collected and the result showed positive (today)," the source was quoted as saying on Saturday afternoon. "He is doing well at the moment and is taking treatment at home. His family is also fine."

The right-arm-bowler gave up his leadership role in his team by stepping down from Bangladesh ODI captaincy after Zimbabwe series. Mortaza played 220 ODIs for Bangladesh in which he picked 270 wickets.

Earlier in the day, the family members of BCCI President Sourav Ganguly tested positive for COVID-19. Wife of Ganguly's elder brother Snehasish as well as her parents tested positive for the virus.

Ganguly's elder brother, Snehashish, who is currently the secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), tested negative for the virus. A domestic help has also tested positive.

"All the four complained of some health issues, which were similar to the symptoms of COVID-19 when they were staying at another residence and not at Ganguly's ancestral house in Behala. After testing positive, all the four were shifted to a private nursing home," a senior official said.

“Whether they will be discharged or not, depends on the result of the tests,” an official at the nursing home stated.
