WC 2019: Finch on the verge of attaining unwanted World Cup record
The Aussie skipper has a fifty-fifty chance of equaling legendary Australian cricketer Allan Border's record for the worst ODI toss losing streak by an Australian captain
Australia skipper Aaron Finch is getting highly praised for the way he has led the Australian side in the ongoing World cup 2019, but the star opener has failed badly in one of the most important duties at the 50-overs mega tournament.
It was for the seventh straight time when finch lost the toss to Sri Lanka during their World cup match. After this, the Aussie skipper now has a fifty-fifty chance of equaling legendary Australian cricketer Allan Border's record for the worst ODI toss losing streak by an Australian captain.
Australia ODI Captains – Toss Win % (Minimum 10 Games)
Kim Hughes - 63.26
Steve Smith - 60.78
Ricky Ponting - 53.71
Allan Border - 48.31
Michael Clarke - 40.54
Aaron Finch - 34.78*
Adam Gilchrist - 23.53
During a press conference, vice-captain Alex Carey even joked that he might replace Finch for toss when Australia take on Bangladesh on Thursday.
"It would be nice for Finchy to choose what he wants to do for once," a smiling Carey said on Wednesday. "Maybe I should do the toss tomorrow."
However, finch’s poor record at winning that toss has not affected his team’s performance at the World Cup as they stand strong at third position in the points table with 4 wins from five matches.
"It's interesting, we've lost a lot of tosses but the last seven games we've played some pretty good cricket," Carey continued.
"In a tournament like this, although you want to win the toss, I don’t think it matters too much in terms of the outcome.
"If we get sent in, we know it's going to be a good wicket or if we have to chase we know what we've got to chase."
