David Warner Officially Retires From International Cricket, Leaves Door Open For Comeback

Star Australian batter David Warner makes his retirement official through a social media post but gives an interesting update regarding his future in international cricket.

Australian left-handed batter David Warner has officially confirmed his retirement from all formats of international cricket in a social media post. However, in a surprising twist, he has made himself available for selection in Australia's campaign for the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025, slated to take place in Pakistan. Australia's exit from the Super 8 stage of the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2024 marked the end of Warner's 15-year career. David Warner played his final match for Australia against India on June 24.

37-year-old David Warner, who is considered one of Australia's greatest openers in the sport, took to Instagram and expressed that his cricketing career is over and how it has been an honour for him to represent his country at the highest level of cricket.

David Warner Open To Play In Champions Trophy 2025

Warner also confirmed that he will continue to play in the franchise cricket and also expressed his openness to play for Australia in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 "if selected".

“Chapter closed!! It’s been an unbelievable experience to play at the highest level for such a long period. Australia was my team. The majority of my career was at the international level. It’s been an honour to be able to do this. 100+ games in all formats is my highlight. I want to say thanks to everyone out there who has made this possible. My wife and my girls, who sacrificed so much, thank you for all your support. No person will ever know what we’ve been through. For all the cricket fans out there, I truly hope I have entertained you and changed cricket, especially tests, in a way where we scored a bit faster than others. We cannot do what we love without the fans, so thanks,” reads the caption of David Warner’s post on Instagram.

“I will continue to play franchise cricket for a while, and I am also open to playing for Aus in the Champions trophy if selected. To the players and staff, thanks for putting up with me. No more what’s app junk, your ears are now going to be free of my voice. This team has had unbelievable success the Last few years and long may this continue. Warner played his last Test match against Pakistan in January and the 2023 ODI World Cup final, which Australia won, marked his last ODI appearance. He played his final T20I against India. The 37-year-old concluded his Test career with 8,786 runs, including 26 centuries and 37 half-centuries. In 161 ODIs, Warner amassed 6,932 runs, with 22 centuries and 33 half-centuries. Warner finished his T20I career with 3,277 runs, including one century.
