Yuzvendra Chahal’s brilliant 4-wicket haul (4/32) and a fiery knock from captain Shreyas Iyer (41-balls 72 runs) led Punjab Kings to a thrilling four-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. With this, Punjab eliminates CSK from Playoff contention. For the first time in IPL history, Chennai experienced five back-to-back defeats at Chepauk.

Chasing 191 at Chepauk was a tough task, but the openers gave a solid start, and Shreyas Iyer continued his strong away form with a brilliant innings.

Chennai's innings: Curran shines amid collapse

CSK's innings got off to a shaky start with openers Sheikh Rashid (11 off 12) and Ayush Mate (7 off 6) failing to capitalize. Ravindra Jadeja added a quick 17, while Dewald Brevis contributed 32 off 26 balls.

The standout performance came from Sam Curran, who smashed 88 runs off just 47 deliveries, including 9 boundaries and 4 sixes. His aggressive knock gave Chennai a fighting total. MS Dhoni added 11 runs from 4 balls before the lower order collapsed.

Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad were all dismissed without scoring, as Chennai was bundled out for 190.

Chahal's hat-trick turns the tide

Yuzvendra Chahal produced a match-defining spell, taking 4 wickets and registering the first hat-trick of IPL 2025. His clinical performance derailed CSK's momentum at a crucial stage. Marco Jansen also picked up 2 wickets, while Arshdeep Singh, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Harpreet Brar chipped in with one wicket each.
