In the ongoing test, Virat Kohli ended his Test century drought by hitting his 28th century, taking 241 balls to get to the three-figure mark. He scored a huge 186 in the first innings of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy match. This was also Kohli’s 75 century in international cricket across formats. The former India skipper also became the second India batter to reach the milestone after the great Sachin Tendulkar.
Post his century, Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma shared a post on her social media handle where she wrote, “Playing through sickness with this composure. Inspiring me always…”.
Apart from Kohli and Gill, lower-order batter Axar Patel also played a crucial knock of 79 runs and built a solid 162-run partnership with Virat which helped India reach 571 runs. In reply to India’s total of 571 runs, Travis Head and Matthew Kuhnemann started the proceedings but then Kuhnemann got out. Head alongside Marnus Labuschagne batted brilliantly before Head was sent off to the pavilion by Axar Patel after well-made 90 runs. Labuschagne scored an unbeaten 63 runs while Smith made 10 not out. The match ended in a draw as stumps were called early.
