BCCI May Question Wriddhiman Saha For Leaking Private Conversations With Dravid & Ganguly: Report

"It's a private conversation and even if he (Saha) was hurt, he should have kept quiet. Dravid became a bigger person as what Saha did was show the head coach in bad light," said a BCCI official.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to question Wriddhiman Saha about his interview to a media house where he spoke about a "private conversation" with the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and coach Rahul Dravid.

After getting dropped from the Test side for the Sri Lanka series, the 37-year old wicketkeeper-batsman revealed that team India head coach Rahul Dravid had asked him to contemplate retirement from International cricket. On the other hand, he also said that BCCI president Ganguly provided him with a conflicting view in November 2021 to "not worry about anything".

The annual contracts that Indian cricketers sign with the BCCI carry a clause 6.3, which apparently Saha has violated, reported PTI. The clause basically mentions that a player cannot speak to the media about internal conversations in the BCCI. Treasurer of the board, Arun Dhumal stated that they may ask Saha for talking to the media about his selection and his private conversations with Ganguly, Dravid, and chief selector Chetan Chauhan.

Clause 6.3 of players' central contract states: "Player shall not make any comments about the game, officials, incidents that happened in the game, use of technology, selection matters or any other matter related to the game which is in opinion of the BCCI is adverse to and /or not in the interest of the game, team or BCCI in any media...."

"Yes, there is a possibility that BCCI could ask Wriddhiman as to how he spoke on selection matters being a centrally contracted cricketer," Arun Dhumal told PTI.

"As far as the president is concerned, he had tried to motivate him. The board might like to know what made him go public with his dressing room conversations with coach Dravid."

When asked if the BCCI will issue a formal show-cause notice to Saha, he said, "We haven't yet decided on the matter. We are all busy but a call will be taken on a few days."

"Rahul Dravid said that he is not "hurt" but wanted to clearly communicate with the player. It's a private conversation and even if he (Saha) was hurt, he should have kept quiet. Dravid became a bigger person as what Saha did was show the head coach in bad light," another senior BCCI official said.
