Australia, after clinching a 3-0 victory in the recent three-match Test series against Pakistan, are gearing up to host West Indies for a two-match Test series commencing on January 17 (Wednesday) at the Adelaide Oval. The series will conclude with a Pink Ball Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, followed by limited-overs cricket, featuring a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series. Australia have dominated the Frank Worrell Trophy for the past two decades, and haven't let West Indies win a single Test match in the series since 2003.
Matt Renshaw, chosen over Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft and Cameron Green make their return to the Australian Test squad, following David Warner's retirement from the longer formats of the game. However, neither Green nor Renshaw will open the batting alongside Usman Khawaja. Instead, the Australian batting mainstay Steve Smith will shift from his previous number 4 batting order to open. Green is expected to bat at number four, with Renshaw included in the squad as an additional batter.
Meanwhile, West Indies have announced a new-look 15-man squad for the Test series, with seven uncapped players. Kraigg Brathwaite will lead the inexperienced Test unit in both matches. The newcomers in the West Indies Test squad include batter Zachary McCaskie, keeper Tevin Imlach, all-rounders Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, and Kevin Sinclair, along with pacers Akeem Jordan and Shamar Joseph. Notably, Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers will be absent from the Test series due to T20 commitments, and Jayden Seales will miss out due to a shoulder injury.
