Asia Cup 2023: Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah Likely To Return To Indian Squad - Report

The Asian Cricket Council made it official that the Asia Cup 2023 will be taking place from 31 August to 17 September 2023.

India’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah and middle order batter Shreyas Iyer are likely to join India's squad for the Asia Cup 2023 as per ESPNcricinfo. Bumrah sustained a back injury and has been out of action since  September 2022.  As a result, he missed out on playing  ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022, IPL 2023, and WTC final 2023. Back in April, he underwent surgery on his lower back in New Zealand.

Shreyas on the other hand too decided to go for back surgery for his lower-back injury in April. Iyer also missed out on playing the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in March in Ahmedabad. He then underwent surgery in London in May. He was suggested to take a rest and focus on completing his rehab.

As per the reports by ESPNcricinfo, both Shreyas and Bumrah are at NCA for their rehabilitation. Medical officers of NCA are hopeful that both players will be fit to take part in the Asia Cup in September. Bumrah is focusing on doing physiotherapy but has now added light bowling workloads to his list. While Shreyas Iyer is mainly doing physiotherapy.

Earlier, the Asian Cricket Council made it official that the Asia Cup 2023 will be taking place from 31 August to 17 September 2023. Teams like  India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal will be locking horns with each other in a total of 13 ODI matches in a hybrid model.
