Ashes 2023: England’s James Anderson Takes 1100th First Class Wicket During 1st Test vs Australia

To reach to this milestone, Anderson scalped the wicket of Alex Carey on a score of 66.

England legendary speedster James Anderson reached yet another feat when he picked his 1100th first-class wicket on Sunday during the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. To reach this milestone, Anderson scalped the wicket of Alex Carey on a score of 66.

The Kangaroos who started the proceedings on 311/5 lost both Khwaja and Carey before three more wickets fell in quick intervals and as a result, Australia ended on 386, seven runs short of the target. Khawaja formed a vital 118-run stand for the sixth wicket with Carey.

Before getting out, Khawaja batted with a lot of composure and smashed the English bowlers all around the park. It was the English skipper Ben Stokes who put pressure by setting an attacking field, comprising six catchers. Despite seeing the attacking field, Khawaja still took the bait and charged down the pitch before Robinson’s near-perfect yorker rattled his stumps.

Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins played a useful hand of 38 runs, smashing Moeen Ali for two maximums in an over. Earlier, Moeen has been fined 25 percent of his match fee by the ICC as he violated the Code of Conduct. The ICC found him breaching Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which is concerning the conduct of the player in contrast to the spirit of the game.

The reason why the veteran all-rounder has been levied this fine is because of the line incident that transpired in the 89th over of Australia's first innings. Moeen was spotted using a drying agent on his bowling hand while standing at the boundary line where he was placed as a fielder. As per the official releases from the ICC, the off-spinner has accepted his mistake and the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
